Poem: Archaeologists at Work

Archaeologists at Work

Sifting through desert sands

Granules of time

They search like detectives

For buried truths

Locked in canopic jars

Or etched

In ancient hieroglyphs

Throughout royal tombs.

What kings or queens lie

What temples to appease

The gods?

They search for answers

Among scattered ruins

Since what the Sphinx knows

It will never tell.
